**Jing Hexagram · The Well** Upper trigram: Kan · Lower trigram: Xun · Hexagram 48 **Hexagram Judgment** The town may be changed, but the well remains unchanged. It neither decreases nor increases. People come and go, drawing from the well. If one gets to the point of drawing water but fails to pull the rope, or if the jar is broken, misfortune arises. **Line Statements** First line: Muddy well water, not fit to drink. An old well, no birds come to it. Second line: The well’s valley shoots fish; the jar is broken and leaks. Third line: The well is cleaned, but no one drinks from it. This grieves my heart. If it could be drawn from, and the king were wise, all would receive his blessings. Fourth line: The well is lined with bricks; no blame. Fifth line: The well has clear, cold water; it is drunk. Top line: The well is completed; do not cover it. With sincerity, great good fortune. Source: Public Domain · Return to the Sixty-Four Hexagrams Directory
