Sign 79: King Wen Composes the I Ching
Average Fortune
Story
King Zhou of Shang imprisoned King Wen of Zhou in Youli. In prison, King Wen expanded the eight trigrams into sixty-four hexagrams, forming the basis of the I Ching. His son Bo Yikao was killed by King Zhou, and King Wen, enduring pain, ate his son's flesh. Later released, he returned and overthrew Shang. This sign signifies accumulating wisdom in adversity.
Oracle Poem
