签65:孙膑困庞涓

Superior Fortune

Story

Sun Bin and Pang Juan studied martial arts under the same master. Pang Juan, jealous of Sun Bin's talent, plotted to have his feet cut off. Sun Bin feigned madness and escaped to the state of Qi. Later, using the strategy of "besieging Wei to rescue Zhao," he ambushed Pang Juan at Maling Path, where Pang Juan committed suicide. This fortune signifies that wisdom triumphs over strength, and evil begets retribution.

Oracle Poem

At Maling Path, troops ambushed in the night; The plan of reducing cooking stoves to lure the enemy was ingenious. Do not say a crippled body is of no great use; One strategy avenged the shame, earning a name for all ages.

Interpretation

This fortune is auspicious, indicating that wisdom can break through difficulties. In career, using clever schemes can defeat strong enemies; in relationships, do not trust petty people easily, use reason to resolve issues; in finances, wit is paramount, avoid brute force. The phrase "avenged the shame" in the poem suggests that grievances will eventually be cleared.
