Sign 50: Tao Zhugong Became Wealthy
Superior Fortune
Story
After Fan Li left Yue, he went to Tao, changed his name to Zhugong, and amassed wealth through trade. His method was: "When others discard, I take; when others take, I give." Also: "Sell precious goods as if they were dirt; buy cheap goods as if they were pearls." In nineteen years, he made a fortune three times and distributed it among the poor and relatives. The world called him Tao Zhugong, and later generations revered him as the Sage of Commerce.
