Sign 38: Li Guang Shoots the Stone

Superior Fortune

Story

General Li Guang of Han, while hunting, saw a stone in the grass and mistook it for a tiger. He drew his bow and shot, embedding the arrowhead deep into the stone. When he approached and realized it was a stone, he tried again but could not penetrate it. His bravery was such, yet he never received a marquisate. Wang Bo sighed: "Feng Tang ages easily, Li Guang finds it hard to be enfeoffed."

Oracle Poem

A stone in the grass mistaken for a tiger, / One arrow pierces the clouds, feathers sink deep. / A hundred steps through a willow is no mere blather, / But fate denies him a marquis, his fate to weep.

Interpretation

This upper sign indicates great courage but poor luck. In career, your abilities are outstanding but you lack a patron; wait for the right time. In love, sincere efforts may not be reciprocated. Finances are modest, not great wealth. Li Guang's bravery is admirable; it advises you not to judge a hero by success or failure.
