Sign 37: Liu Ling Drinks himself Drunk

Inferior Fortune

Story

Liu Ling, one of the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove, indulged in wine and freedom. He often rode a deer cart carrying wine, with a servant carrying a spade, saying: "Bury me where I die." His wife urged him to quit, but he knelt and prayed: "Heaven gave birth to Liu Ling; wine is his name." He drank and fell drunk. Once after drinking, a man threatened to beat him, and Liu Ling said: "Chicken ribs are not worthy of your noble fist." Then he laughed heartily and left.

Oracle Poem

In the depths of drunkenness, he hides from fame, / With a white eye he scorns the heroes of the world. / Awake, he knows not if he is a guest in his frame / Drifting on blue sky and green sea, his life uncurled.

Interpretation

This lower sign signifies passive escapism. In career, you lack drive and may be hindered by drinking. In love, your attitude is reckless, and it's hard to find a home. Finances are draining; you need to quit bad habits. Liu Ling's drunkenness was to avoid disaster, but it's not a long-term solution; it advises you to cheer up.
