Inferior Fortune

Story

During the reign of Emperor Wu of Han, Su Wu was dispatched as an envoy to the Xiongnu but was detained. The Chanyu ordered him to herd sheep at Lake Baikal, stating he could only return when the male goats gave milk. Su Wu held the Han envoy's staff for nineteen years, until all its tassels fell off. He chewed snow and swallowed felt to survive, eventually returning to Han. When Li Ling tried to persuade him to surrender, Su Wu said: "A minister serving his ruler is like a son serving his father. A son dying for his father harbors no regrets."

Oracle Poem

Nineteen autumns of frost on the Northern Sea, / Loyalty pure as snow, white-haired and unbowed. / The staff's tassels fell, but his red heart remained free, / The Han moon hangs long with homeland sorrow endowed.

Interpretation

This lower sign signifies hardship and perseverance. In career, you face long-term adversity and must endure humiliation without losing integrity. In love, separation is frequent, testing true feelings. Finances are low, but persistence will eventually bring a turning point. Su Wu's integrity lies in endurance; it advises you not to change your resolve due to temporary difficulties.
