Qian 19: Ziyi Enfeoffed as Prince

Supreme Fortune

Story

Guo Ziyi, a native of Huazhou Zhengxian, was a famous general of the Tang dynasty. During the An-Shi Rebellion, as military governor of Shuofang, he recovered the two capitals. Later he quelled the rebellion of Pugu Huaien and single-handedly turned back the Uighur army. He served four emperors, bearing the safety of the realm on his shoulders for twenty years. Enfeoffed as Prince of Fenyang, he had eight sons and seven sons-in-law, all highly honored, and died at eighty-five. This qian signifies peerless merit and complete blessings and longevity.

Oracle Poem

Single-handedly he turned back ten thousand Uighur; / His merit towered high, honor and glory secure. / The Prince of Fenyang’s mansion, songs and flutes fill air, / Wealth and rank extend to his heirs, forever fair.

Interpretation

This is an upper-upper great auspicious qian, like the sun at high noon. In career, you will accomplish unmatched feats, leaving a name in history. In love, family harmony, prosperous descendants, and a happy marriage. In wealth, you accumulate great riches that benefit future generations. This is the ultimate auspicious sign, but remember: when at the peak of power, be even more cautious—Guo Ziyi in his later years kept his gates wide open to show selflessness, a lesson to learn.
