Qian 16: Ye Mengxiong Appears Before the Emperor

Story
Ye Mengxiong, a native of Guishan in the Ming dynasty, was a Jinshi during the Jiajing era. He first served as a county magistrate and earned a good reputation. Later he became prefect of Ganzhou and made merit in suppressing pirates. During the Wanli period, as Vice Minister of War and Governor of the Three Border Regions, he repeatedly defeated the Mongols. He once presented a "Treatise on Firearms" to the emperor, who praised it. One day at court, Emperor Shenzong asked about border affairs; Ye answered fluently and was granted a dragon robe and jade belt. This qian signifies gaining imperial favor and rapid advancement.

Interpretation
This is an upper auspicious qian, like climbing high to see far. In career, one will gain recognition from superiors, especially beneficial for civil servants or employees of large corporations. In love, partners met through formal occasions are more reliable. In wealth, regular income is excellent, and speculative gains are also possible. This qian suggests: opportunity always favors the prepared; ordinary accumulation eventually finds its use.
