Qian 13: Luo Tong Becomes Marshal

Superior Fortune

Story

Luo Tong, son of the Tang dynasty famous general Luo Cheng, lost his father young but learned his family's spear techniques. When Emperor Taizong campaigned in the west, Luo Tong, only fourteen, volunteered to lead the army. At Jie Pass he fought fiercely against Su Dingfang, spearing the enemy commander and winning a great victory. The emperor praised him: "A tiger's cub from a general's door—heroes come from youth." This qian signifies early success and the awe-inspiring potential of the young.

Oracle Poem

A boy in marshal’s robe took the field, / Silver spear, white horse, his prowess revealed. / At Jie Pass he showed his sacred might, / Truly a scion of the Luo family’s light.

Interpretation

This is an upper auspicious qian, like the rising sun. In career, young people may receive extraordinary promotions; elders should support the next generation. In love, taking the initiative often brings success, but one must mind the method. Wealth is abundant, especially in emerging industries or technical fields. This qian suggests: heroes come from any background; ambition is not measured by age—take what is rightfully yours.
