Sign 8: Jiang Taigong Fishes

Superior Fortune

Story

Jiang Shang, styled Ziya, was a man from the eastern sea coast. In his early years, he butchered cattle at the court of Zhou, sold food at Jijin, and lived in hardship for half his life. At age eighty, he fished by the Wei River using a straight hook three feet above the water, saying, "Only those who are willing to be caught will bite." King Wen of Zhou went hunting; his divination yielded the oracle: "Not a dragon, not a chi dragon, not a tiger, not a bear—the one caught will be a king's right hand." He indeed met Taigong and appointed him Shang Father. Later he assisted King Wu in overthrowing Zhou and was enfeoffed in Qi. This sign signifies great success in later years.

Oracle Poem

By the Wei River's bank, a single fishing rod, / The straight hook was not meant to catch fish. / If King Wen understood how to pacify the world, / The eighty-year-old would be honored as Shang Father.

Interpretation

This sign is auspicious, like a dragon lurking in the deep. In career, you may currently feel unrecognized, but if you persist in accumulating, a wise patron will surely appear—especially favorable for middle-aged and elderly job seekers. In love, do not force; calmly let fate mature naturally. Financially, regular income is stable; windfall gains await the right time. The core message: when the time is not ripe, patient waiting is the best strategy.
